Bombardier receives LRT supplier award

Bombardier Transportation said Monday that for the second year running, it has received the Worldwide Supplier of the Year Award. Bombardier was recognized at the 2011 Light Rail Awards, held in London, on Oct. 5.

Germar Wacker, president, Light Rail Vehicles (LRV), Colin S Walton, U.K. chairman, and Elaine Greenwood, sales director LRV U.K., were honored by British Under- Secretary of State for Transport Norman Baker.

bombardier_logo.jpgSaid Wacker, “This award underscores our capability as a provider of light rail solutions and as a reliable partner for transport operators in the U.K. Our vehicles are already in successful revenue service in Manchester, London-Docklands, London-Croydon, and Nottingham and our first BOMBARDIER FLEXITY2 tram has just been successfully launched in Blackpool."

The judges who selected Bombardier for honor said, “With over 100,000 trams and railcars running worldwide, this is a firm that goes from strength to strength in the urban transit industry. The latest FLEXITY 2 vehicles for Blackpool are obviously the result of the firm’s extensive experience in this industry and offer an exciting future for the next generation of tramways worldwide.”
