AREMA/Watford Fellowship application deadline nears

Written by William C. Vantuono, Editor-in-Chief

The AREMA Educational Foundation, in cooperation with the U.S. Committee to the Watford Group of International Railway Designers, has created the “Watford Fellowship,” described as “a unique learning opportunity for an aspiring railway employee to gain an international perspective of railroad design and operations.”

The Fellowship will consist of a paid registration to the 2014 Watford Conference in Amsterdam, Netherlands, Oct. 15-18, 2014, valued at approximately US$1,800.00. The goals of this initiative are twofold, according to AREMA: “to broaden professional horizons of aspiring railroaders while enabling them to carry the AREMA brand internationally, and to add new members to the U.S. Watford Committee that can carry on the tradition of Watford Conference participation and the educational benefits that accrue.”

The Watford Group was created in 1963 by British Railways to encourage the exchange of ideas and promote design excellence among its operating regions. Other countries were invited to join and subsequently, more than 20 nations are now eligible to send delegates to the annual Watford Conference. The Watford Group is one of the very few global organizations that integrate all aspects of rail transportation under the umbrella of “good design is good business.”

The deadline for application is April 15, 2014. An application, which can be downloaded on the AREMA website by accessing this link, must be be mailed to: AREMA c/o Stacy Spaulding; 4501 Forbes Blvd., Suite 130; Lanham, MD 20706 USA.
