Toyota Logistics Services recognized Union Pacific Railroad as the top rail transportation provider with its 2011 President's Award. UP received the award for its high level of overall logistics excellence among rail carriers, the Class I carrier noted Monday.

Union Pacific also received Toyota’s Logistics Excellence Awards for on-time service performance and customer service. Toyota Logistics Services recognizes outstanding performance of all logistics suppliers, including truck, marine and railroad companies.

“Union Pacific has been recognized by Toyota with logistics excellence awards in key category components for many years,” said Linda Brandl, Union Pacific vice president and general manager – Automotive. “We are honored to receive the 2011 President’s Award and remain committed to supporting Toyota with innovative transportation solutions and excellent service.”

Union Pacific transported more than half a million Toyota vehicles in 2011.

Customer service scores rate communication, equipment supply, responsiveness, collaboration, business controls and overall ease of doing business. On-time performance involves online and through-route performance and improved year-over-year transit time. Quality scores emphasize damage-free service, year-over-year damage reduction, process improvements and reduction in damage cost per vehicle.
