Norfolk Southern (NS) has launched two new grant programs—the Safety First Grant Program and the Thriving Communities Grant Program—for first responders and community organizations across its 22-state network.

According to NS, the Safety First Grant Program is designed to “advance safety organizations and initiatives” with each grant, up to $15,000, supporting first responders that work to prepare and prevent emergencies and ensure community safety.

The Thriving Communities Grant will “promote economic opportunity, support vibrant community life, and provide equal access to basic necessities,” according to NS. Each grant, up to $50,000, will support nonprofit organizations across the NS network that are working to build a strong and resilient foundation for long-term prosperity.

“We are always looking for new ways to advance safety and nurture thriving communities across our 22-state network,” said NS Director of Corporate Giving Kristin Wong. “Through our Safety First Grant and Thriving Communities Grant programs, we are reinforcing our dedication to forge meaningful connections by directing resources towards initiatives that enhance safety, ensure sustainable practices, foster local workforce development, and develop resilient communities.”

To learn more about the eligibility for each program and apply for a grant, visit the NS Corporative giving website. Applications will be accepted Sept. 5 through Nov. 15 and will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
