Written by Marybeth Luczak, Executive EditorNorfolk Southern (NS) recognizes six Midwest Division railroaders for their commitment to safety. Also, BNSF backs the Louisiana Fire Chiefs Association’s training efforts.
NS’s Operations Division Safety and Service Committee recognized six Midwest Division railroaders for their “dedication, enthusiasm, and involvement in the safety process and for helping set the pace for safety,” the Class I railroad reported Oct. 10.
Those honored for their service included:
• Tim Hunt, for 29 years of “safety and service.”
• Todd Clark, for 41 years of “injury free safety and service.”
• John Reynolds, for “outstanding safety, service, and mentorship of new employees.”
• Raymond Landrum, for 27 years of “injury free service.”
• David Caldwell, for commitment to “safety and service.”
• Rick Watts, for 31 years of “safety and service with significant contributions to the local safety committee.”
“Through their daily actions, each of these railroaders demonstrate behavior that makes the Midwest Division a safer place for everyone to work,” NS Midwest Division Superintendent John Mosley said during the recognition ceremony in Decatur, Ill. “We thank all our honorees for making a difference by providing safe, reliable and resilient service.”
A grant from the BNSF Railway Foundation will help fund the Louisiana Fire Chiefs Association’s TESLA (Training Ensures a Safe Louisiana) program, BNSF reported in an Oct. 6 Facebook post. TESLA allows the fire chiefs to learn about the latest tactics, techniques and technologies in fire service and hazmat response from experienced instructors from across the country. Two comprehensive education events are conducted each year.
BNSF Executive Director Public Affairs Michael Garriga recently presented the grant to Chad Sonnier, Chief of the Scott Fire Department in Scott, La.
In a related development, BNSF late last month announced that a grant from the BNSF Railway Foundation is allowing the Osceola, Ark., Fire Department to purchase a new drone.
