Bombardier Transportation said Wednesday Lutz Bertling has been named the company's president and chief operating officer, effective June 3. He succeeds current president Andre Navarri, who will remain with the company as a strategic adviser to Bertling for one year, retiring on June 1, 2014.

Bertling currently serves as CEO of Eurocopter, a subsidiary of Eads, which he joined in 1999. Between 1993 and 1999, Bertling worked for Adtranz, now part of Bombardier Transportation, where he held several positions of increasing seniority. Bertling holds a doctorate in mechanical engineering from the Technical University of Braunschweig, Germany.

“I am extremely pleased to welcome Lutz Bertling, a leader with a proven track record of managing complexity in organisations with global workforces,” said Bombardier, Inc. President and CEO Pierre Beaudoin. “His wealth of experience and achievements in the transportation and defense industries will reinforce Bombardier Transportation’s leadership position.”
