Arkansas Steel Associates on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013, welcomed guests to its grand opening of its Robotic Vicor Tie Plate Production Line in Newport, Ark.

A ceremony and a tour of the facility, along with lunch, was scheduled, as was a dinner later in the day hosted by Arkansas Steel Associates and Swedesboro, N.J.-based Pandrol USA.

The company’s website says Arkansas Steel Associates “continues researching product diversification by manufacturing a wide variety of tie plate sections, grader blades, wide flats and semi-finished products to meet the growing needs of the railroad industry.”

Arkansas Steel Associates is a subsidiary of Sumitomo Corp. and Yamato Kogyo Company, Ltd. The company’s Newport headquarters is roughly 90 miles west northwest of Memphis, Tenn.
