Tucson receives second streetcar for testing

Tucson, Ariz., received its second streetcar early Wednesday morning, Oct. 16, 2013, from Clackamas, Ore.-based United Streetcar LLC.

Local officials hailed the delivery as a sign that United Streetcar was following through on deliveries following several delays. The city received its first streetcar (shown in photo) late last August, six months behind original schedule.

Tucson has ordered eight cars in total. The 3.9-mile, $177.4 million Tucson streetcar line, Sun Link, is scheduled to begin revenue operation next year. The route links the University Medical Center with the west side of the Santa Cruz River via downtown. Major infrastructure construction was ongoing throughout the summer and is nearly complete.
