Washington, D.C.'s District Department of Transportation (DDOT) readied its official welcome of the first of three units being delivered by Clackamas, Ore.-based United Streetcar, LLC on Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2014.

DDOT planned to receive and unload the first unit at its Testing and Commissioning site in the city’s Anacostia district. DDOT will conduct tests for operational readiness at the site.

Three streetcars already are on site, manufactured by Inekon of the Czech Republic. Those units also are undergoing testing and commissioning in Anacostia, and have begun appearing in static (non-powered) clearance tests along the 2.2-mile H Street/Benning Road Line, the first modern streetcar line in the nation’s capital set to open later this spring.
