Calif. governor hailed for HSR support

The chairman of the California High-Speed Rail Authority Board of Directors, Thomas J. Umberg, on Thursday released a statement praising Gov. Jerrry Brown, following the unveiling of the governors’ 2012-13 State Budget:

“We are pleased to see the Governor’s continued commitment to the state’s high-speed rail project. Governor Brown’s leadership and long-term vision for the future of this state will benefit generations to come. Modern transportation infrastructure is fundamental to California’s future economic and environmental well-being. We look forward to working with the administration to present the detailed proposal later this year.”

Gov. Brown continues to support the $998 billion, 700-mile statewide HSR plan despite mounting criticism from state legislators and perennial anti-rail critics outside the Golden State.
