Written by Carolina Worrell, Senior Editor

Minneapolis, Minn.-based Railway Equipment Co. will be launching three new innovative products at Railway Interchange 2015, the company recently announced. Set to make an appearance at the exhibition are two microprocessor-controlled switch mode chargers—the SMC Cragg Railcharger and the DTC Cragg Railcharger—as well as a battery monitor.

The SMC and DTC Cragg Railcharger series are for use with lead acid and NiCad batteries available in five models with a range of specifications. The units are compatible with Net-RReady remote monitoring software, allowing convenient anywhere access to the status of equipment and data, anytime, the company says. The chargers also allow the viewing of historical data and use information to determine bad or deteriorating cells.

Specifications of the SMC Cragg Railcharger series, which is available in the following models—20SMC-12V, 30SMC-12V, 40SMC-12V and 60SMC-12V—include:

• Battery voltage monitor with relay output.

• Remote voltage sensing capability.

• Temperature compensation with controlled limits.

• Adjustable current limit.

• AAR/AREMA terminals.

• Ethernet and USB ports for monitoring and configuration.

• Operating temperature -40 to +158F with 0-95% non-condensing humidity.

• +/- 0.25% voltage regulation.

• Universal input of 90-264VAC 47-63 Hz.

• Up to 90% more efficient.

• Two-year limited warranty.

• Net-RReady ™ compatible.

Specifications of the DTC Cragg Railcharger, which is available in the following models—10DTC-12V, 20DTC-12V, 40DTC-12V, 60DTC-12V and 30DTC-24V, include:

• Battery voltage monitor with relay output.

• Remote voltage sense capability.

• Temperature compensation with controlled limits.

• Adjustable current limits; 100-50%.

• AAR/AREMA terminals.

• Ethernet & USB ports for monitoring and configuration.

• Operating temperature -40 to +70 Celsius with 0-95% non-condensing humidity.

• +/- 1% voltage regulation.

• <1 volt peak to peak output ripple.

• 2×20 OLED, displays voltage, current temperature, and settings.

• Two-year warranty.

• Net-RReady ™ compatible.

Railway Equipment Co.’s battery monitor will collect data from individual battery cells or battery strings. It is Net-RReady™ to improve efficiency of monitoring and data collection, monitoring such live data points as current, voltage and temperature.

Specifications of the battery monitor include:

• Will monitor up to 60 individual cells.

• Locally view live data of battery cells.

• Two voltage and current inputs.

• Two configurable alarm relay outputs.

• Estimates the remaining battery capacity (in Amp-hours) based on Amp-hours consumed, discharge current, temperature, and battery age.

• Estimates the remaining runtime (in minutes) based on battery capacity and average load over a period of time.

• Net-RReady ™ compatible.

• Power: 120/240VAC or 12/24VDC.

• Display: User-friendly interface with a 2×20 OLED display to exhibit data, with four push buttons to navigate settings.

• Function: Communicates with cell monitors via wireless 900MHZ.

Railway Equipment Company will be displaying its products at RSSI booth #1641 in Exhibit Hall B.
