New York No. 7 line readies for CBTC work
Written by Douglas John BowenMTA New York City Transit has announced it will suspend weekend service this fall between Queensboro Plaza (Queens) and Times Square (Manhattan) to begin installation of communications-based train control (CBTC).
The No. 7 line will be the second subway line to receive CBTC, following CBTC activation on the L line (“Canarsie Line”) in 2009. The work is expected to continue “for several years,” MTA said.
MTA NYCT is recommending customers to take alternate subway lines E, F, N, Q, or S, as well as free supplemental shuttle bus service.
