China to carry out Ring of Fire railway study

Canadian mining company KWG Resources announced on August 22 that it has signed a framework strategic cooperation agreement with China Railway First Survey and Design Institute Group (FSDI) to carry out a bankable feasibility study for a multi-user railway linking mines in northern Ontario’s Ring of Fire region to a junction with Canadian National’s (CN) Winnipeg – Nakina – Sudbury main line at Exton.

First Lima Line 2 train heads for Peru

The first of 42 driverless metro trains being supplied by Hitachi Rail Italy (HRI) for Lima metro Line 2 was loaded onto the MV Cerinthus at the port of Salerno on August 16 in readiness for its 29-day sea voyage to Peru.

Lima metro Line 1 is set to benefit from a significant increase in capacity under an addendum to the concession contract between the Peruvian government and the GyM-Ferrovias consortium, which was signed on July 11 by Peru’s minister of communications and transport José Gallardo Ku and consortium chairman Gonzalo Ferraro.

Miami moves forward with light rail possibilities

Miami Beach City Commission has given the go-ahead to negotiate an interim agreement with the Greater Miami Transit Partners consortium, which has submitted the highest-ranking proposal for a light rail line in the city.
