Rail Safety Week Kicks Off—Virtually

Social media and virtual messaging is spreading the word for Rail Safety Week (Sept. 21-27) due to the pandemic. The #STOPTrackTragedies campaign is encouraging safe behavior near highway-rail grade crossings and railroad rights-of-way, and raising awareness of the need for rail safety education.

Rail Safety Week Set for Sept. 21-27

Mexico will join the U.S. and Canada in observing Rail Safety Week this year from Sept. 21-27. Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI), Operation Lifesaver Canada and the Asociación Mexicana de Ferrocarriles (Mexican Association of Railroads—AMF) will support the public awareness initiative to encourage drivers and pedestrians to practice safe behavior near railroad tracks.

OLI Awards $200,525 for Rail Safety Awareness in 18 States

Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI), in partnership with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), announced that $200,525 in grants will be awarded to 15 state Operation Lifesaver programs for a variety of rail crossing safety and trespass prevention public education projects, many of which will be conducted in conjunction with the nonprofit safety group’s observance of Rail Safety Week, Sept. 21-27, 2020.

OLI Awards First Innovative Rail Safety Grant for $60K

Operation Lifesaver, Inc., (OLI) in partnership with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), announced it will award the first Innovative Rail Safety Grant for $60,000 to New York Operation Lifesaver. The grant will fund a targeted, data-driven and multifaceted trespass prevention campaign in the state.

OLI Hires Four State Program Leaders

Four new leaders are in place for rail-safety nonprofit Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI) state programs, according to OLI Executive Director Rachel Maleh: The new District of Columbia Operation Lifesaver Coordinator is Jeffrey Bennett; Colin Smith serves in the role for Montana Operation Lifesaver; Toni Clithero is state coordinator for Vermont Operation Lifesaver; and Tracey Lamb leads the Operation Lifesaver program in Virginia.
