HART Utility Relocations Under Way

The Vermont Agency of Transportation (AOT) has reported that Amtrak’s Ethan Allen Express will begin service to Burlington, Vt., next month. Also, Stantec has landed a contract extension for work on Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation’s (HART) light rail project; Southern California’s Metrolink is rolling out the next phase of its Earthquake Early Warning System; New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has launched an online trip planner for riders considering new Grand Central Madison commutes; and a new San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) and North County Transit District (NCTD) program will offer free transit passes for young adults transitioning out of foster care.

Amtrak’s accessibility-improvement project at Ashland (Va.) Station is complete. Also, four transit agencies have earned 2022 rail safety and security awards from the American Public Transportation Association (APTA); Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) on June 3 submitted its 2022 Recovery Plan to the Federal Transit Administration (FTA); and TransLink’s Brentwood Town Center Station upgrade in metro Vancouver will start later this month.

Prototype HART trainset unveiled

The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) on May 2, 2016 publicly unveiled the prototype four-car driverless trainset for the new Honolulu Metro, which is schedule to open in about two years.

HART taps INIT for smart card, mobile ticket system

The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART) and the City’s Department of Transportation Services (DTS) have partnered with INIT for the implementation of a smart card and mobile ticketing solution for use across TheBus and the Honolulu rail transit systems.

First Honolulu Metro cars delivered

The first two vehicles from a fleet of 20 four-car driverless trains being built by Hitachi Rail Italy (HRI) for the Honolulu Metro arrived in Hawaii on March 24, 2016.

HART CEO Grabauskas named APTA representative to UTIP

APTA (American Public Transportation Association) has named HART (Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation) Executive Director and CEO Daniel A. Grabauskas as U.S./North America representative to the policy board of the UITP (International Association of Public Transport) for the 2015-2017 term.
