At the InnoTrans 2012 expo in Berlin, GE Transportation unveiled its PowerHaul Series PH37ACai diesel-electric locomotive, which the company says “is continental Europe’s newest cross-border locomotive and our most technologically advanced, fuel-efficient, and low-emissions diesel-electric locomotive to date.”
General Electric Co. Tuesday said it will expand its new, advanced manufacturing battery factory in Schenectady, N.Y., which is part of the company’s new Energy Storage business.

Erie, Pa.-based GE Transportation Friday reported a “segment profit” of $232 million in the first quarter of 2012, up 48% from the same quarter a year ago. Revenue of $1.3 billion rose 41% measured against the first quarter of last year.

Erie, Pa.-based GE Transportation on Friday reported $1.5 billion in fourth-quarter 2011 revenue, up 43% year-over-year. Revenue for the full year 2011 was $4.9 billion, up 45% compared with fiscal year 2010. Segment profit for the fourth quarter was $226 million, up from $73 million in 2010. Full-year profit for GE Transportation was $757 million, up from $315 million in 2010.
Erie, Pa.-based GE Transportation said it had completed its acquisition of software provider RMI from The Carlyle Group. GE said late Tuesday the acquisition significantly expands its Software and Optimization Solutions business to serve railroad customers worldwide. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Italy’s Trenitalia has awarded a contract to GE Transportation worth an estimated $60 million for the design, supply, and installation of 400 onboard SSC (Sistema di Supporto alla Condotta) train-protection systems for passenger and freight diesel locomotives. Trenitalia is the operating company of Italian State Railways.
