The Surface Transportation Board (STB) has for the second time found that CN-subsidiary Wisconsin Central, Ltd.’s proposal “to unilaterally designate” the Belt Railway of Chicago’s (BRC) Clearing Yard as the location where it will receive traffic in interchange from Canadian Pacific Kansas City-subsidiary Soo Line Railroad Company “is not consistent with the reasonableness requirement of 49 U.S.C. § 10742.”

USDOT Awards $4.9B for Mega, INFRA Projects

The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) is distributing $4.9 billion to 37 nationwide projects through the FY 2023-24 Mega (National Infrastructure Project Assistance) and INFRA (Infrastructure for Rebuilding America) grant programs. Twelve rail-related projects will receive a total of $1.6 billion; the Pier B project at the Port of Long Beach and the Louisiana International Terminal project at the Port of New Orleans are among the winners.

Azure Sustainable Fuels Corp. (Azure) on Jan. 18 reported advancing the development of a Canadian renewable-fuel production facility that will ultimately produce 20,000 barrels per day of predominantly SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel). The facility, to be served by CN, is expected to open in 2027.
