Report: Wabtec’s Erie Rail Plant Could Close If New Labor Agreement Is Not Reached (UPDATED)

Manufacturing operations at Wabtec Corp.’s Erie County, Pa., rail plant could end if a new labor agreement is not reached with some 1,400 striking union workers, County Executive Brenton Davis said Aug.

“Looking ahead, we’re building momentum, and the pace of our commercial activity across segments and regions is growing,” Rafael Santana said July 27 during a second-quarter 2023 financial report.

Wabtec: ‘Strong’ 2Q23 Results, Full-Year Guidance Raised

Wabtec “delivered another strong quarter” for the three months ending June 30, 2023, with double-digit earnings per share growth, said President and CEO Rafael Santana, who noted during a July 27 financial report that the “orders pipeline is expected to strengthen” in second-half 2023. The company also raised its full-year 2023 guidance.

Wabtec’s Services team will modernize CN’s 60 certified pre-owned Dash-9 locomotives to bring the total modernized fleet to 110 locomotives.

CN on July 26 announced an order to enhance an additional 60 locomotives in its existing fleet through Wabtec’s modernization program, supporting the Class I railroad’s “commitment to drive growth in a sustainable manner and build success for customers, employees and communities.”

CSX on July 14 reported that testing of 20% soybean oil-based fuel in a locomotive fleet serving Tampa, Fla.-based phosphate customer Mosaic, which began in 2022 to demonstrate the effectiveness of the B20 biodiesel blend in Wabtec FDL Advantage engines, “continues to yield impressive results.”

Wabtec Lands FLXdrive Order, Alternative Fuel Testing Partnership With Vale
