For NS T&E Crews, More Time Off for Medical Visits (UPDATED)

Norfolk Southern (NS) is providing 7,500 craft railroaders additional time off for up to three scheduled routine and preventative medical visits, the Class I railroad reported in the “Story Yard” section of its website.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) has secured a new labor contract with the Bi-State Development Board of Commissioners. Also, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) has reached tentative contract agreements with the South Buffalo Railway Company (SBRR) and the Illinois Railway (IR).

Rail Labor Update: A FUBAR Lurks

Although six of 12 rail labor unions have ratified amendments to contracts setting wages, benefits and work rules on most Class I railroads and many smaller ones, two unions—the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen (BRS) and Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes Division of the Teamsters Union (BMWED)—have rejected the tentative deal, creating a likelihood of a nationwide rail work stoppage as early as November 19.
