Railcar builder stocks tumble following PHMSA NPRM comment period

Shares of The Greenbrier Companies and Trinity Industries fell 10.2% and 7.7%, respectively, in afternoon trading on Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2014, one day after the deadline for final comments on the U.S. DOT Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Administration’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking on tank cars carrying flammable liquids. Wall Street analysts attributed the stock plunge (which also affected American Railcar Industries, down 5.8%) to investor wariness over an “oil tank car rule fight.”

ARI profitable 1Q fails to beat Street

American Railcar Industries, Inc. reported a first-quarter profit of $20.8 million, or 97 cents per share, late Wednesday, April 30, 2014, after the closing bell on Wall Street. compared with $17.9 million, or 84 cents per share, in the corresponding period of 2013. ARI reports “strong” 3Q earnings

St. Charles, Mo.-based American Railcar Industries, Inc. has reported “strong” third-quarter earnings of $35.6 million, or 98 cents per share, up 17% from earnings of $30.3 million in the third quarter of 2012.

Revenue for the quarter was $207.7 million, up 6% from revenue in the year-ago quarter and the highest since the third quarter of 2008, the company said.

ARI in tank car pact with ACF Industries

American Railcar Industries, Inc. late Thursday said it has entered into a purchasing and engineering services agreement with ACF Industries, LLC. ACF will build rail tank cars at its Milton, Pa., plant, under the agreement.

Greenbrier to Icahn: No deal

The Greenbrier Companies has firmly rejected Carl Icahn-led American Railcar Industries’ conditional proposal to acquire Greenbrier for $22 per share. The offer “is unacceptable and not in the best interests of Greenbrier stockholders,” the company said in a statement released late Dec. 20.
