People News: LRW Names Scholarship Honorees, IANA Announces Academic Competition Winner, Quandel Hires New VP

The League of Railway Women (LRW) has awarded its 2020 Connie Sumara Memorial Scholarship ($2,000) and the inaugural LRW Future of Railroading Scholarship ($1,000) to TrinityRail Operations Manager Megan Forbes and Jessica Labrecque, respectively. An undergraduate team fielded by Georgia Southern University won the Intermodal Association of North America’s (IANA) tenth Logistics and Supply Chain Academic Competition. Additionally, Chicago-based Quandel Consultants has named David M. Simon Vice President-Director of Wisconsin Operations.

Basuel, Bruhnke Join LRW Board

Wi-Tronix LLC User Experience Manager Patricia Basuel and RailPros Vice President Training Erika Bruhnke have joined the League of Railway Women (LRW) Board of Directors as Events Chair and Director-at-Large, respectively.

For 2020, RSI Going Virtual

The Railway Supply Institute (RSI) has moved its 2020 education conference online. Now open to all rail industry professionals, RSI 2020 Online Education Sessions will run September 21 through October 2 and feature two to three webinars each weekday.

ASLRRA: Yurasko New General Counsel; Reilly Signs On For PTC

Two experienced railroad professionals—Sarah Yurasko and Eileen Reilly—have joined the American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) in legal and technology consulting roles, respectively. Yurasko is the Association’s new General Counsel, replacing Keith Borman, who retired after 15 years. Reilly’s company, Global Train Services LLC, has signed on as a consultant for Positive Train Control services.

Carnes Receives LRW’s Connie Sumara Scholarship

Genevieve Carnes, Railway Alert Network Manager for the Association of American Railroads (AAR), has been named the winner of the 2019 Connie Sumara Memorial Scholarship by the League of Railway Women (LRW).

The League of Railway Women (LRW) recently announced its new board of directors for the 2019-2021 term, with Amanda Trainor Patrick and Sarah Yurasko serving as President and Vice President, respectively.

The RSI Education & Technical Training Conference—LRW

The RSI Education & Technical Training Conference at Railway Interchange 2019 “serves to educate attendees on new technologies and trends in the rail industry and provide an opportunity for industry networking and collaboration. There are more than 50 educational sessions on railcar maintenance, rail operations, air brake technologies and trends and a focus on leadership in the rail industry,” RSI notes. “Session content is provided by the Railway Supply Institute, the Air Brake Association, the International Association of Railway Operating Officers, the League of Railway Women, the Locomotive Maintenance Officers Association and the Railcar Technical Services Association.”

LRW Accepting 2019 Outstanding Member of the Year Nominations

The League of Railway Women (LRW) has opened nominations for the 2019 “Outstanding Member of the Year” award. The recipient will be recognized during the LRW Annual Membership Meeting to be held on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at Railway Interchange in Minneapolis. LRW corporate partners and individual members are eligible.
