MBTA Commuter Rail is moving toward a “regional rail” model with its new spring service schedule going into effect April 5. In addition, the Executive Office of the Massachusetts Governor is inviting Request for Responses (RFR) to conduct a “Study on the Post-Pandemic Future of Work and Life in the Commonwealth.”

The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority and Keolis Commuter Services announced that the seasonal CapeFLYER weekend train service between Boston and Hyannis begins Memorial Day weekend.

Keolis proposes system to reduce MBTA fare evasion

At the MBTA Fiscal Management and Control Board meeting, which took place on April 25, 2016, Keolis presented a new proposal for fare collection that would dramatically reduce fare evasion on the MBTA Commuter Rail system while increasing revenue by up to $24 million annually. Under the Keolis proposal, the MBTA fare collection system would be updated to make it easier to buy tickets, but more difficult to evade fares.

VRE extends contract with Keolis

The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) has exercised its option to extend its contract with Keolis for an additional five years to operate the VRE commuter rail trains which serve Washington D.C.’s Northern Virginia suburbs.
