CATS Launches Expanded CityLYNX Gold Line (UPDATED)

Charlotte Area Transit System’s (CATS) CityLYNX Gold Line streetcar re-opened for service on Aug. 30, with a second-phase expansion and new Siemens streetcars; it will be fare-free until January 2022.

USDOT: $250MM to Advance Transit Projects

The U.S. Department of Transportation reported on June 11 that 22 transit projects in the Capital Investment Grants (CIG) program will receive a total of $250 million in American Rescue Plan funding allocations; four are rail-related and will receive a total of $64.9 million.

Charlotte opens light rail extension

Charlotte (N.C.) Area Transit System (CATS) opened an extension to its 9.3-mile Lynx Blue Line light rail line on March 16.

Siemens finalizes S70 streetcar deal with Charlotte

Siemens announced November 28 that it finalized a plan with Charlotte City Council  to build six new S70 streetcars for the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS), the public transit system operated across Mecklenburg County and four surrounding counties.
