PSNY track work to affect NJT, LIRR

Track work at Penn Station New York (PSNY) this summer will have effects on two public transportation lines—NJ Transit (NJT) and Long Island Rail Road (LIRR).

LIRR testing myLIRR “real-time train finder”

MTA Long Island Rail Road on Feb. 6 launched a beta test of myLIRR, an online tool designed for mobile devices that allows customers to see real-time train position. It also shows information about train lengths and locations of any trouble spots affecting service. The map is refreshed with new data every three to five seconds and “benefits from the enhanced accuracy of GPS data.”

MTA taps Troup for ESA

The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has appointed veteran railway engineering professional Arthur R. “Rob” Troup as Senior Program Executive of the MTA Long Island Rail Road East Side Access (ESA) project. MTA Chief Development Officer Janno Lieber announced Troup’s appointment on Sept. 24.

Grade crossing safety: The “Waze” of the future

NTSB dockets opened for NJT, LIRR crashes

Dockets for the fatal Sept. 29, 2016, NJ Transit commuter rail collision in Hoboken, N.J., and the Jan. 4, 2017, Long Island Rail Road collision at the Atlantic Terminal, Brooklyn, New York, were opened to the public Sept. 21 by the National Transportation Safety Board as part of its ongoing investigations of the two accidents.

NY Penn Station renewal work on schedule

The “Summer of Hell,” while not quite living up to its reputation, will end for New York area commuters on Sept. 4 as the Amtrak Infrastructure Renewal program at New York Penn Station remains on schedule with regular operations returning on Sept. 5.
