GPA, CSX to establish Appalachian Regional Port

Governor Nathan Deal, the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) and CSX Transportation signed a memorandum of agreement July 28, 2015 establishing the Appalachian Regional Port in Chatsworth, Ga. Its service will include North Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and parts of Kentucky.

CSX’s Eliasson: “Meaningful margin expansion”

Speaking at the Bank of America Merrill Lynch 2015 Transportation Conference in Boston on May 14, 2015, CSX Chief Financial Officer Fredrik Eliasson said that, for the full year, CSX “continues to expect EPS growth in the mid-to-high single digit range, as well as meaningful margin expansion as the company makes progress toward a mid-60s operating ratio.”

Ever hear of the Oyster Express? In the midst of a season filled with stories of railroads running special Santa trains all over the country to bring food, clothing, toys, and some Christmas cheer to needy people, a report came across my desk about a partnership involving CSX Transportation, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (MDNR), and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) to restore an “oyster sanctuary.”

SunRail rolling in central Florida

Central Florida’s new SunRail regional/commuter rail service has been in operation since May 1 along a 32-mile route comprised of 12 stations between DeBary and Sand Lake Road, near Orlando International Airport. The new service marks completion of the first phase of the $1 billion Central Florida Commuter Rail Transit (CFCRT) project.
