Wabtec lands Alaska Railroad PTC contracts

The Alaska Railroad has awarded the Railway Electronics division of Wabtec Corp. $16.6 million worth of contracts to provide PTC (positive train control) equipment and services, including CAD (computer-aided dispatch) and back office systems. The systems will be installed on the railroad’s 525 miles of controlled track, which are used for freight and regularly scheduled passenger service.

Destination America: The Alaska Railroad

The television network “Destination America,” which is part of the Discovery Communications group of networks (TLC, Animal Planet, etc.), will be premiering a new series, “Railroad Alaska,” on Saturday, Nov. 16.

Alaska Railroad names new COO

The Alaska Railroad has named Chief Mechanical Officer Doug Engebretson as Chief Operating Officer, a position left vacant when former COO Bill O’Leary was promoted to President and CEO on Nov. 1. Engebretson’s promotion was effective November 8.

O’Leary named Alaska Railroad CEO

The Alaska Railroad Board of Directors has named Bill O’Leary President and CEO of the Alaska Railroad, succeeding Chris Aadnesen. O’Leary will start in his new position this Friday, Nov. 1, 2013.

Alaska Railroad Corp. said Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013, that nine flatcars loaded with pipe separated and rolled away during a switching operation at the southeast end of its Fairbanks Rail Yard early in the day.

The railroad’s seven-member board of directors says it’s seeking “a decisive leader with strong business experience in the transportation industry or an in-depth understanding of supply chain management. Experience working in the Alaska business community is preferred.”

TÜV Rheinland lands Alaska Railroad PTC work

TÜV Rheinland Mobility said Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013, that its Rail Safety Consulting division has been awarded the second portion of a two-part consulting contract by the Alaska Railroad Corp. (ARRC) involving PTC deployment.
