ASLRRA Members Honored for Safety Performance

The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) presented President’s Safety Awards to members at its Central and Pacific Region Meeting, held Sept. 26-28 in Long Beach, Calif., and at its Eastern and Southern Region Meeting, held Nov. 7-9 in Lexington, Ky.

The Bi-State Development agency’s St. Louis Regional Freightway initiative is “streamlining the site selection process for rail-accessible sites” across the bi-state Missouri/Illinois region.

New Merchants Bridge Open for Traffic

The 133-year-old Merchants Bridge, which spans the Mississippi River at St. Louis and links Missouri and Illinois, officially reopened to rail traffic Sept. 15, following completion of a $222 million replacement project. Owned and operated by the Terminal Railroad Association (TRRA), the bridge serves six Class I railroads and Amtrak.

Merchants Bridge Reconstruction Final Truss In Place

The $222 million project to replace the St. Louis Regional Freightway Merchants Bridge that links Missouri and Illinois near downtown St. Louis is nearing completion, as the third and final new steel bridge truss has been floated into place.

ASLRRA to STB: No Uniform Service-Metrics Reporting

The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association (ASLRRA) was among those responding to the Surface Transportation Board’s (STB) call for comments on issues regarding First-Mile/Last-Mile (FMLM) service; the deadline was Dec. 17.

St. Louis Regional Freightway Commits $2.75B to Infrastructure

The St. Louis Regional Freightway’s 2022 Priority Projects List features 21 projects worth $2.75 billion that “represent key infrastructure needs of the manufacturing and logistics industries in the Eastern Missouri and Southwestern Illinois area.” Many are rail-specific or rail-related. The most important is a major project to replace the Merchants Memorial Mississippi Rail Bridge, constructed in 1889.
