Alstom’s Montreal Milestone

Alstom recently completed delivery on a major rapid transit railcar order for Société de Transport de Montréal (STM), which, like RATP in Paris and Sistema de Transporte Colectivo (STC) in Mexico City, uses rubber-tired vehicles. The 639 MPM-10 cars, configured in 71 carsets of nine and named “AZUR” (“Sky Blue”) by the public in 2012, were ordered from Bombardier and completed by Alstom. They entered service in 2016 and completely replaced the original MR-63 model. They feature an open gangway design similar to the Toronto Transit Commission’s Rocket cars, also built by Bombardier.

Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) has installed earthquake early warning systems at 26 rail and bus division facilities. In addition, New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is forming a subsidiary to oversee the new East Side Access project terminal; South Florida Regional Transportation Authority’s (SFRTA) Tri-Rail is resuming full service; Thales has delivered interlocking systems for three Société de Transport de Montréal (STM) rapid transit stations; and Wabtec will provide doors, brakes, HVAC systems and event recorders for Metra’s new multilevels.

More metro cars for Montreal

Société de Transport de Montréal (STM) has exercised a $340 million (C$448 million) option on an October 2010 contract with the consortium of Bombardier Transportation and Alstom for 153 additional AZUR rubber-tired metro cars, configured as 17 nine-car trainsets. Bombardier’s share is valued at $213 million (C$281 million), Alstom’s at $127 million (C$167 million).

STM sets capex plan at C$2.1 billion

Société de transport de Montréal (STM) on Oct. 23, 2015 announced a three-year capital expenditures program valued at more than C$2.8 billion (US$2.1 billion). The plan outlines spending from 2016-2018 on those investments needed to upgrade or replace equipment and infrastructure approaching the end of their service life in the next few years.

Alstom inaugurates bogie plant in Quebec

Alstom Transport on Friday, July 5 inaugurated its new 55,000-square-foot bogie manufacturing plant located in an industrial complex in Sorel-Tracy, Quebec. The plant was built to provide Alstom with a facility to assemble more than 900 bogies for 468 new rubber-tired metro cars being supplied to Société de transport de Montréal (STM) by a joint venture of Bombardier Transportation and Alstom under a C$1.2 billion contract.
