Supply Side: Wabtec, Siemens Mobility, BAI

Wabtec Corp. has been awarded a US$69.63 million (€60 million) contract to supply platform gates for the Marseille metro automation project in France. In addition, Siemens Mobility and BAI Communications (BAI) have finalized their acquisitions of Sqills, a Netherlands-based passenger rail software provider, and Mobilitie, a U.S. telecommunications infrastructure company, respectively.

SNCF reports strong high-speed growth

French National Railways (SNCF) says that traffic on its high-speed services grew by 14% between January and April this year compared with the same period in 2018 when SNCF was suffering from strikes. The growth equates to additional 4.5 million travelers.

Alstom to supply Coradia Liners to SNCF

SNCF has ordered 34 Coradia Liner trainsets, the latest generation of long-haul trains from Alstom, as part of a project initiated by the French Prime Minister to renew Corail intercity trains. The order is worth $474 million. The trainsets are expected to enter into service beginning December 2015.

Damaged turnout likely cause of fatal SNCF wreck

SNCF (French National Railways) says a detached turnout fishplate is the likely cause of the derailment of an intercity train on July 12 at Brétigny-sur-Orge south of Paris in which six people died and 62 were injured, reports International Railway Journal, , sister publication of Railway Age.
