Balfour Beatty Lands VTA Catenary Project

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) has awarded Balfour Beatty a $16 million contract for its Overhead Contact System (OCS) Rehabilitation Phase 3 project. Balfour Beatty recently completed Phase 2 of this project.

PTSI Transportation has supplied a Route Learning System™ to Santa Clara VTA for use in its new technical training center.

MTA New York City Transit (NYCT) has set a new record for pandemic-era subway ridership. Also, Santa Clara Valley (Calif.) Transportation Authority (VTA) has taken delivery of a Route Learning System™ to help qualify light rail operators.

The Santa Clara VTA has released a Request for Proposals to hire a consultant “to aid the agency in making significant and meaningful changes in the organizational culture and climate,” the agency reported.

L.K. Comstock National Transit will work with Alstom on a four-year project to upgrade the Miami Metromover. In addition, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) will hire a consultant to help “transform the workplace environment”; and Dallas’ Trinity Railway Express (TRE) turns 25 on Dec. 30.

MTA Metro-North Railroad has expanded its rider seat availability tracker to Google Maps. In addition, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority has scheduled pilot testing of autonomous vehicle (AV) shuttle routes in 2022 and 2023; and the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) has selected WSP USA’s Jannet Walker-Ford to serve on its Executive Committee.

Metrolink, in partnership with Caltrans and the U.S. Geological Survey, will test earthquake early-warning system technology along the 91/Perris Valley commuter rail link between Perris and Riverside.

The Southern California Regional Rail Authority (Metrolink) will test an Earthquake Early Warning System. In addition, the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) on Sept. 10 unveiled the reconfigured 42nd Street Shuttle; California’s Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) on Sept. 12 restored complete Blue Line light rail service; and Sound Transit on Sept. 13 kicked off its Fare Ambassador Pilot program.

SkyTrain’s 11.8-mile (19-kilometer) Canada Line in metro Vancouver will have a 17th station starting in spring 2023. The C$52 million Capstan Station (rendering above) will be located between the existing Bridgeport and Aberdeen stations.

Vancouver’s TransLink has begun construction on the new C$52 million Capstan Station, to serve SkyTrain’s Canada Line. In addition, California’s Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) on Sept. 4 resumed light rail service on the Blue Line, just days after restoring full Orange Line and partial Green Line service.
