Operation Lifesaver (OLI) will use 2022 funding from the Posner Foundation of Pittsburgh to support a competitive grant program for public education activities conducted by OLI state programs, among other initiatives.

OLI: Posner Foundation Grant Renewed

The Posner Foundation of Pittsburgh has renewed its annual grant to Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI), supporting U.S. highway/rail grade crossing safety education.

This summer, WMATA will close the New Carrollton, Landover, Cheverly, Deanwood and Minnesota Avenue stations on the Orange Line, as part of the final phase of its four-year Platform Improvement Project.

Transit Briefs: GCRTA, Metra, WMATA

Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) will receive an initial $20.3 million under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Also, Chicago’s Metra has scheduled 51 safety blitzes for 2022; and Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) will start the final phase of its Platform Improvement Project on May 28.

OLI is offering new public service announcements for farmers and farm machine operators, available in English and Spanish versions, to ensure their safety in the field.

OLI Issues Rail Safety Resources for Farmers, Farm Machine Operators

Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI) has released new rail safety resources to help farmers and farm machine operators avoid incidents around railroad tracks. According to preliminary 2020 Federal Railroad Administration statistics, 325 crossing collisions comprising 17% of total incidents occurred at private crossings, resulting in 22 fatalities (11.2% of total crossing-related deaths) and 111 injuries (16.1% of total crossing injuries).

Commemorating the 50th anniversary of Operation Lifesaver (OLI), Amtrak on Jan. 12 released into service a specially painted P-42 diesel, emblazoned on both sides with the message, “See Tracks? Think Train!”

Glasgow OLI Champion Award Recipient

Operation Lifesaver Inc. (OLI) has named Georgia Operation Lifesaver State Coordinator Jennie Glasgow recipient of its 2021 Champion Award “in recognition of more than 40 years advancing rail safety education.” OLI announced Glasgow’s award during the 2021 Operation Lifesaver State Coordinator Summit in Omaha, Neb.
