MTA New York City Transit President Andy Byford, recently arrived from the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and working diligently to improve operations, has named two agency veterans to executive posts running North America’s largest rapid transit network.

MTA Genius Transit Challenge finalists selected

The New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) on Dec. 21 announced the names of 19 finalists for the agency’s “GeniusTransit Challenge,” an international competition launched in May “that seeks to identify innovative solutions to increase the capacity and improve the reliability of New York City’s subway service.”

NYCT qualifying Kontron-powered on-board communications

MTA New York City Transit is qualifying the TRANSIS®-Train communications system from CSiT, a supplier of integrated communication and security technology for transit, under a loan agreement. TRANSIS®-Train is powered by TRACe™ transportation computing technology from Kontron, a provider of ECT (Embedded Computing Technology).

NYCT FASTRACKing no. 1 Line

Beginning Monday, June 19, extensive maintenance, cleaning and repair work will be performed along a portion of MTA New York City Transit’s no. 1 Line, as the FASTRACK program returns to Upper Manhattan for two weeks.

Duos Technologies to test track security system with NYC Transit

Duos Technologies Group, Inc. has been issued a Letter of Intent to award a Purchase Order from New York City Transit for a turn-key system as part of a comprehensive pilot program to test and evaluate new technologies that provide a warning when persons or objects enter onto the operator’s tracks.

Second Avenue Subway open for business

New Year’s Day, 2017: Nearly 88 years after the first bond issue was floated to finance construction of a subway under Second Avenue on New York City’s East Side, the first MTA New York City Transit Q Trains began rolling between 63rd and 96th Streets on the Second Avenue Subway. Thousands attended the inauguration of service.

MTA NYCT prepares for 2nd Avenue opening

In preparation of the 2nd Avenue subway line opening later this year, MTA New York City Transit begins Monday, November 7 to operate W trains weekdays between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and Whitehall St, making all local stops in Queens and along the Broadway line in Manhattan.
