STB Will Consider Amtrak Gulf Coast Case

The Surface Transportation Board (STB) on Aug. 6 concluded that the matter of Amtrak providing Gulf Coast service over host freight railroads CSX and Norfolk Southern (NS) “is ripe for adjudication.”

CSX, NS to STB: Deny Amtrak Request

CSX and Norfolk Southern (NS) are calling on the Surface Transportation Board (STB) to deny “as moot” Amtrak’s renewed request for an interim order requiring the Class I railroads to provide track access between New Orleans and Mobile so Amtrak can prepare for proposed Gulf Coast service.

Each recipient of NS’s 2020 Thoroughbred Chemical Safety Award shipped or originated at least 1,000 carloads—for a combined total of more than 156,000 carloads—over the railroad’s network without a single incident last year.
