NYAB shifts some manufacturing to North Carolina

New York Air Brake LLC will be moving its Watertown, N.Y.-based peripheral product assembly to NYAB operations in Salisbury, N.C. The change is part of what the company describes as “a realignment strategy [of] North American manufacturing operations.”

NYAB partners with Predikto on LEADER improvements

Predikto, Inc. announced on July 14, 2015 a new collaborative effort, where New York Air Brake, Inc. (NYAB) will incorporate the company’s auto-dynamic predictive analytics platform, MAX, into its LEADER (Locomotive Engineer Assist/Display & Event Recorder) advanced train control technology solutions via its internet of things (IoT) initiative.

Tank car builder chooses NYAB DB-60 II with Brake Cylinder Maintaining

New York Air Brake (NYAB) shipped its first DB-60 II air brake control valves equipped with its new Brake Cylinder Maintaining (BCM™) feature on Feb. 23, 2015. The valves will be installed in new CPC-1232-spec tank cars designed to carry Bakken crude oil, and scheduled to enter service in April. The railcar manufacturer was not disclosed.

New York Air Brake marks 125 years

September 2014 marks the start of a year-long New York Air Brake celebration “honoring 125 years of making freight railroads safer and more productive,” according to NYAB President Mike Hawthorne.

NYAB, Bendix establish lab at RIT

New York Air Brake LLC and Knorr-Bremse Group sister company Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems LLC, working in conjunction with Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), have created the Knorr-Bremse North America Mechatronics Laboratory at RIT’s Kate Gleason College of Engineering in Rochester, N.Y. The laboratory will open this fall and serve both RIT students and engineers from Bendix and New York Air Brake.

Officials from BNSF, Canadian Pacific, Ferromex, Florida East Coast, Norfolk Southern, Union Pacific, and mining conglomerates ArcelorMittal and Vale S.A. met in Dallas at the New York Air Brake Train Dynamic Systems (TDS) Division LEADER® Users Conference Oct. 21-23 to discuss their experiences with LEADER® (Locomotive Engineer Assist/Display and Event Recorder), NYAB’s freight train management system, which is designed to improve train handling and yield significant fuel savings.

NYAB DB-60 II control valve maintains brake pressure on grades

Heavy-haul freight trains require fully charged brakes. When operating a train on a downgrade, brake usage levels on individual cars climb, equipment heats up, and braking power levels can drop drastically, sometimes forcing the engineer to stop the train. New York Air Brake has developed a new control valve, the DB60 II, to address these issues.
