NS touts role in industrial development

Norfolk Southern said Friday it has “participated in the location of 64 new industries and the expansion of 30 existing industries along its rail lines in 2012.”

New Ohio short line announced

Hannibal Real Estate of White Plains, N.Y., and Carload Express of Oakmont, Pa., on Wednesday jointly announced agreement to operate the 12.2-mile Omal railway line in Monroe County, Ohio, naming it the Ohio Terminal Railway Co.

CP, frac sand company announce pact

Canadian Pacific and Smart Sand, Inc., Wednesday announced a strategic long-term partnership “under which the two companies will supply and ship premium, Northern White frac sand to the unconventional oil and gas industry in key North America producing regions (including the Bakken and Eagle Ford formations, and the Utica and Marcellus Shales).”

L.B. Foster supplies materials for industrial line

L.B. Foster Co. is delivering rail and trackwork products valued at $3.4 million for the construction of 8.5 miles of track at the new Vallourec & Mannesmann Tubes Star Steel pipe mill in Youngstown, Ohio. The contractor is Wintrow Construction of Barberton, Ohio.

New bridge eyed for NS Southern Tier

Growing freight traffic potential, spurred on by energy production activity in the Marcellus Shale formation in western New York State and Pennsylvania, is encouraging Norfolk Southern to replace a historic bridge on NS’s Southern Tier route linking Buffalo and Binghamton, N.Y., and spanning the Genesee River in Letchworth State Park, near Castile, N.Y.
