Siemens’ new higher-speed Charger diesel-electric passenger locomotive is undergoing a comprehensive testing program at the Transportation Technology Center Inc. (TTCI) in Pueblo, Colo., prior to entry into revenue service in various U.S. locations.

Three states add to Siemens Charger orders

California, Illinois and Maryland have ordered a combined 34 Charger diesel-electric passenger locomotives from Siemens Mobility, bringing the number of state Departments of Transportation procuring these units to six and the total number of units to 69. The locomotives will be built at the Siemens rail manufacturing plant in Sacramento, Calif.

Executive order hits Chicago-Rockford rail plan

Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner signed an executive order Saturday, Feb. 7, 2015, putting major state construction projects on hold, apparently including improved passenger rail service between Chicago and St. Louis.

Illinois eyes Amtrak Black Hawk restoration

Siemens lands high-performance passenger locomotive order

The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has issued a Notice of Intent to Award to Siemens Rail Systems USA for approximately 35 high-performance diesel-electric locomotives for several Midwestern and West Coast states using funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation. IDOT is leading the multi-state locomotive procurement on behalf of the Departments of Transportation from Illinois, California, Michigan, Washington, and Missouri.

FRA issues RFP for PRIIA 305 HrSR locomotives

The Federal Railroad Administration has issued a Request For Proposals (RFP) for 35 high-performance diesel-electric locomotives built to standardized technical specifications developed by the Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act (PRIIA) Section 305 Next Generation Corridor Equipment Pool Committee.

Voith to provide pushback coupler systems for 130 CALTRANS/IDOT railcars

Voith Turbo, a Group Division of Voith GmbH, has won a contract to provide 260 pushback coupler systems to the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The pushback couplers, part of Voith’s Crash Energy Management (CEM) technology, will be installed on 130 higher-speed bilevel passenger railcars being supplied to Caltrans and IDOT by Nippon Sharyo.
