Labor Briefs: IBEW, BLET

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) has secured a new labor contract with the Bi-State Development Board of Commissioners. Also, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) has reached tentative contract agreements with the South Buffalo Railway Company (SBRR) and the Illinois Railway (IR).

For CN, IBEW, New Collective Agreement

CN on Oct. 11 reported that arbitration with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) has concluded, resulting in a three-year collective agreement.

IBEW Members Ratify Freight Rail Agreement (UPDATED)

The National Carriers’ Conference Committee (NCCC), which represents most U.S. Class I freight railroads in national collective bargaining, announced on Sept. 28 that the membership of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) has ratified the tentative labor agreement.

NMB Orders Labor Back to Washington

In a final effort to avoid a nationwide rail shutdown as early as Sept. 16, the National Mediation Board (NMB) has ordered railroad negotiators and the leadership of unions still at the bargaining table to return to Washington, D.C., Sept. 7 for an NMB-guided try at reaching tentative agreements on amending wage, benefits and work rules contracts.

IBEW Strike Ends at CN

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) has agreed to binding arbitration, ending a strike at CN that began June 18, the Class I railroad reported on July 4.

CN to IBEW: ‘Return to the Bargaining Table’

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) “has failed to respond to CN’s latest offer to resolve the ongoing strike, now in its 10th day,” the Class I railroad reported June 29, noting in a Twitter update that it is “maintaining normal rail operations across Canada.”
