RAILWAY AGE, NOVEMBER 2020 ISSUE: While most aspects of railroading have not been immune from the effects of COVID-19—namely, a drop in business—many railroads have been “working smart” and thinking ahead, taking advantage of lower traffic levels to get a jump on maintenance-of-way projects, before work windows re-tighten when operations return to pre-pandemic levels. State-of-good-repair and other projects are continuing, and railroads are using a variety of high-production, high-tech-driven track machines to perform the work. Ballast programs are among the most important of these.

HTI adds Watco to its PTC family

Watco Cos. LLC, a short line railroad holding and transportation services company based in Pittsburg, Kan., has selected Herzog Technologies, Inc. (HTI) to provide Positive Train Control (PTC) hosting services. HTI previously announced PTC hosting contracts with Tacoma, Wash.-based short line Tacoma Rail and Ohio-based regional Wheeling & Lake Erie.

Herzog/ACI JV to operate CT commuter line

A joint venture of HerzogTransit Services subsidiary TransitAmerica Services and Alternate Concepts Inc. has been selected as the service provider that will operate and manage service on the CTrail Hartford Line.

Herzog announced on October 19 that after 46 years in the Heavy Civil Construction Industry, Ralph G. Larison – Senior Vice President and National Construction Division Manager has transitioned as of July 1, 2016 to the Board of Directors of Herzog Contracting Corp.

Mid-Coast Transit Contractors awarded $921.8 million San Diego contract

Skanska announced on September 30 that Mid-Coast Transit Contractors – a joint venture of Stacy and Witbeck, Herzog and Skanska – has been awarded a $921.8 million construction manager/general contractor contract from the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) to construct the Mid-Coast Trolley.
