R.J. Corman Railroad Group says that R.J. Corman Switching Co. has formed a partnership with Toyota to provide railcar switching, vehicle shuttling, vehicle loading, and track maintenance at the new Blue Springs, Miss., Toyota Corolla plant.

BNSF updates data on reduced CO2 emissions

BNSF said Tuesday its customers significantly reduced carbon dioxide emissions in 2011 by shipping their freight by rail instead of their products moving entirely over the road.

Supreme Court rules for rail suppliers in asbestos case

In a case involving asbestos exposure in railroad repair work, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled unanimously that the Locomotive Inspection Act, as interpreted in 1923, preempts subsequent state laws with respect to worker exposure to brake shoes and insulation containing asbestos.

MTA railroads issue “Pledge to Customers”

Second Avenue Subway blasting found non-polluting

New York MTA Capital Construction (MTACC) says a study conducted by Parsons Brinckerhoff and reviewed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency found “no concerns that Second Avenue Subway construction is causing any danger to the public’s health.”

TriMet starts work on MAX solar project

TriMet on Tuesday began installing solar panels at the South Terminus of the MAX Green and Yellow lines at SW Jackson Street, near Portland State University (Ore). The agency says that, when completed, the site will be the first solar energy project utilized along TriMet’s 52-mile MAX light rail system.

Arlington County presses streetcar preliminary design

Virginia’s Arlington County, west of Washington, D.C., is set to commit $3 million for environmental planning and preliminary design of the Columbia Pike Streetcar, expected to cost $120 million.  The county board is expected to approve the measure.
