Goodbye MetroCard, hello Oyster

It has been about 20 years since MTA New York City Transit phased out tokens for the now-iconic MetroCard farecard used on the system’s subways and buses. Now, the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority will be phasing in a new system similar to Transport for London’s Oyster open-payment, contactless-based fare collection system.

The “one-stop” mobile app gives transit riders the ability to plan, manage and pay for their journeys for each of the region’s agencies.

Cubic extends contract to operate, maintain Brisbane go card system

Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS), a business unit of Cubic Corporation announced Nov. 19, 2015 that it has signed a three-year contract extension with TransLink commencing in September 2016, to continue operating and maintaining the go card smart card system in the Australian state of Queensland.

Matt Cole named president of CTS

Matt Cole, EVP and deputy of Strategy and Business Development for Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS), has been appointed president of CTS and senior vice president of Cubic Corporation, effective Oct. 1, 2015. Steve Shewmaker, who plans to retire in 2016, has been appointed chairman of CTS.
