For NS, $3.1B in 2023 Economic Development

Norfolk Southern (NS) teamed with 62 customers on industrial development projects totaling $3.1 billion in 2023, reflecting expansion or construction of new facilities along the 22-state rail network, the Class I reported Jan. 9.

Albemarle Corporation’s planned facility in South Carolina “will help increase the production of U.S.-based lithium resources,” according to CEO Kent Masters, who noted that the Chester County location offers access to rail and port transportation as well as the availability of skilled workers.
