PTSI Transportation and the Chicago Railroad Superintendents Association are offering a one-day conference, Railroad and Rail Transit Physical Characteristics Training and Testing – Are We Where We Need to Be?, in Chicago on Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, in the Metra meeting room at 547 West Jackson Blvd., across from Chicago Union Station.

Speakers will review how the various types of railroads—Class I, short lines and regionals, Amtrak, commuter railroads and rail transit systems—teach and test physical characteristics; what regulatory agencies think of how physical characteristics are taught and tested; and what new technology is available to teach and test physical characteristics.

“All attendees will share best practices and networking in a roundtable session,” according to conference co-organizer and PTSI Transportation Managing Director Michael Weinman. “The conference will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a working lunch and coffee breaks included in the modest fee. It is a non-profit conference being conducted for the benefit of the industry, to exchange best practice among attendees.”

“Nearly 150 years ago, the nation’s first transcontinental railroad was completed,” notes Weinman. “Today’s routes, transcontinental, local, or within metropolitan areas, are far more complex, and the knowledge required to safely operate today’s and tomorrow’s trains over these routes must be acquired, and the comprehension measured.”

The Chicago Railroad Superintendents Association is a long-standing professional organization of and for railroad and rail transit operating officers in the Chicago area.
