Operation Lifesaver, Inc. (OLI), in partnership with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), has released new education materials covering commuter rail, light rail, rapid transit and streetcar safety for riders and the general public.

Available to transit agencies, OLI state programs and the general public, the materials include:

• Three new 30- and 15-second video and audio PSAs (public service announcements) in English and Spanish that address station and highway/rail grade crossing safety as well as safety around streetcars and light rail transit systems.

• A transit safety brochure in English and Spanish that is available in a variety of formats (download below).

• Graphics in English and Spanish for sharing on social media platforms.

• A six-minute transit-specific safety video.

“FTA is proud to continue its support of Operation Lifesaver to fund innovative new materials,” FTA Administrator Nuria Fernandez said. “I encourage rail transit agencies to use these safety education and outreach materials as a way to increase safety on and around their rail transit systems. Together, we are making a difference and saving lives.”

“These new rail transit specific materials will help keep the public safe when using rail transit or sharing the roadways with commuter trains, light rail and streetcars,” OLI Executive Director Rachel Maleh said.

In related news, earlier this year, OLI issued new rail safety resources to help farmers and farm machine operators avoid incidents around railroad tracks.
