Canadian Pacific has presented its Safe Shipper Award to 45 customers for their “ongoing commitment” to safely transporting hazardous materials (hazmat) by rail in 2019.

Recipients of the annual award transported at least 500 carloads of hazmat (non-intermodal) with zero non-accidental release (NAR) incidents, according to the railroad.

(A hazmat NAR is the unintentional release of a hazardous material while in transportation, including loading and unloading while in railroad possession, that is not caused by a derailment, collision or other rail-related accident, CP noted.)

Among the winners are BASF Corp., Dow Chemical Canada, Grain Processing Corp. and Valero Marketing and Supply Co. For a list of all winners, click here.

“Encouraging and rewarding safe behavior across every aspect of our business helps to ensure that our employees and our communities stay safe during the transport of essential products,” said Coby Bullard, CP Vice President Sales and Marketing, Merchandise and Energy, Chemicals and Plastics.

In other developments, CP President and CEO Keith Creel, Executive Vice President Operations Mark Redd and Executive Vice President Marketing John Brooks talked with Railway Age Editor-in-Chief William C. Vantuono about business growth, capital investment and today’s challenging operating environment in a recent podcast. Click here for more.
