Members of the National Association of Women Highway Safety Leaders 2013 Conference in San Diego, Calif., are slated for a safety reminder involving roads and railroads, courtesy of Operation Lifesaver, Inc. President and CEO Joyce Rose.

Rose, scheduled to address the organization Saturday, Aug. 24, 2013, will outline OLI’s efforts to target young people with rail safety and anti-trespassing messages. Rose will make the presentation along with Lindsay Colcombe, program manager for the National Organizations for Youth Safety.

OLI notes that in 2012, 1,967 vehicles collided with trains at highway/rail grade crossings throughout the U.S., resulting in 271 fatalities. Trespassing along rail property cost the lives of more than 400 people in 2012.
