The Association of American Railroads issued a statement on Donald J. Trump's inauguration day as President of the United States stating that the rail industry is prepared to work with his Administration:

“We are ready to work with the President in helping achieve some of his most ambitious goals, including an overhaul of our tax code, improving a sprawling and inefficient regulatory system and helping devise a sustainable and equitable funding source for the Highway Trust Fund as America looks to secure and strengthen its critical infrastructure.

“As an inherently continental industry—a self-sufficient private network that lessens burdens on our crumbling roads and bridges—we help businesses large and small not just compete, but win globally. From construction to automotive to agriculture, freight railroads serve almost every industrial, wholesale, retail and resource-based sector of the economy.

“Behind the strength of a fully unionized workforce and the still-powerful deregulatory framework enacted through bipartisan leadership, we will provide the firm footing this economy needs to revive manufacturing, vital infrastructure and consumer confidence. And we will do so through sustained, private investments—some $25 billion annually and six times more than the average U.S. manufacturer.”
