The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) names Gabrielle (Farrell) Mondestin to the newly created position of Chief Communications Officer. Also, Liz Justison joins STV as the Transportation West Operating Group President.

MBTA on May 22 reported that Gabrielle Mondestin will be responsible for “developing and transforming the agency’s communications strategy to provide a unified, transparent, effective and authentic approach to messaging while prioritizing meaningful communications with MBTA’s ridership and the communities we serve.” She will be a member of the senior leadership team and report to Philip Eng, who took over as General Manager on April 10.

Mondestin served most recently as Chief Communications Officer for Boston Public Schools (BPS). She was previously Deputy Chief of Staff at BPS. With more than a decade of experience, Mondestin has also held senior strategy communications roles with Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s (D-Mass.) 2020 United States presidential campaign; Connecticut’s Treasury Department; the New Hampshire Democratic Party; and Senator Warren’s and then-Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh’s re-election campaigns. Additionally, she worked in the tech industry, where she spearheaded the development of a media relations program in North America for PTC Inc., a global billion-dollar Nasdaq-traded software manufacturing company.

“Gabrielle is a seasoned, highly skilled and experienced communications professional widely respected in her field, with a proven track record of success,” Phillip Eng said. “She is a great addition to our team, and I am confident she will play a key role in helping us effectively communicate with the public.”

As STV’s new Transportation West Operating Group President, Liz Justison will not only lead the professional services firm’s expansion in the West, but also enhance client relationships.

She has more than 25 years of experience in the transportation industry, including infrastructure delivery, policy development, funding strategy, technology selection, operations implementation and planning. Prior to joining STV, Justison was Senior Supervising Manager at WSP/Parsons Brinckerhoff.

“Liz brings an exceptional level of industry knowledge as well as a passion for mentoring the next generation at STV,” said Greg Kelly, President and CEO of STV. “With her leadership, she will also bring a renewed focus on deepening and expanding our client relationships and partnerships and build upon the strong portfolio of projects we have delivered in the West.”

STV has supported the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority in numerous capacities, including service as lead designer for the multi-billion dollar design-build Purple Line extension and preliminary designer for the Green Line extension to prepare for the 2028 Summer Olympics. STV has also worked on projects for the California High-Speed Rail Authority, Metrolink and San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District.
