Wabtec is providing 186 Metroflexx brake systems, 372 roof-mounted air conditioning systems, and more than 1,100 external sliding ES2-type doors for the 62 three-car automated trainsets that Hyundai Rotem Co. is supplying for operation on Singapore Mass Rapid Transit’s new Jurong Region Line, slated to start opening in 2026.

The Hyundai Rotem Co. has selected Webtec Corp. braking systems, doors and air conditioning systems for the 62 three-car automated trainsets that it is supplying under contract with Singapore Land Transport Authority (LTA). The trainsets will operate on Singapore Mass Rapid Transit’s (MRT) new 15-mile, 24-station Jurong Region Line, which will connect western Singapore and is scheduled to begin opening in 2026.

Wabtec will provide 186 Metroflexx brake systems, which communicate with vehicle onboard computers and traction equipment “to optimize use of electrodynamic braking”; 372 roof-mounted air conditioning systems; and more than 1,100 external sliding ES2-type doors, which Wabtec reported are already operating on Singapore MRT line trains. All systems will be delivered with “embedded condition-based maintenance capability,” Wabtec added.

“The Jurong Region Line is a critical project for expanding and enhancing Singapore MRT’s service,” said Lilian Leroux, President of Wabtec’s Transit business. “This order builds upon our long-standing partnership with the MRT.”

TÜV SÜD, an independent testing and certification authority, recently certified Wabtec’s Metroflexx, which the company calls “next-generation braking systems for the mass transit rail industry.” The certification “validates that the system meets the safety, quality and performance standards set at an organizational, local or international level.”

Additionally, Wabtec was awarded a contract from Alstom in early 2020 to supply the braking system for the first 219 railcars for RATP’s Grand Paris Express. Metroflexx will be installed on six-car and three-car trainsets that will run on three of the Paris transit authority’s four new automated regional lines.
