Two years on, Kansas City continues to be one of the better stories in new U.S. streetcar transit development.

For the week of July 8, the fare-free KC Streetcar recorded its highest weekly ridership to date with 78,998 rides. On July 6, a special promotion of arts and shopping known as First Friday, the KC Streetcar recorded its highest daily ridership to date with 19,181 rides. That was up from the previous high of 17,267 on May 6, 2017.

“The public response has been amazing. Our service is consistently carrying thousands of passengers a day and has helped redefine the downtown Kansas City experience for residents, employees and visitors,” said Tom Gerend, executive director, KC Streetcar Authority.

The authority said July 2016 posted the highest monthly ridership at 233,683, followed by July 2017 with 230,925.
