The Westmatic Group is a global company headquartered in Arvika, Sweden, with subsidiaries in the U.S. and Canada. Westmatic was formed in 1974 by Jan Sundell, who designed its first large vehicle wash system and who remains active in the company today. Westmatic wash systems are designed to clean all types of rail rolling stock and motive power—freight, main line passenger, light rail and rapid transit—as well as trucks and buses. Westmatic wash systems have been installed in more than 3,000 locations worldwide. The U.S. sales office was established in 2005, and a full production facility was opened in Buffalo in 2008. The company currently has 28 employees handling design, manufacturing, production, sales and service support and equipment installation for the U.S. market. All machines sold in the U.S. are manufactured in Buffalo; Westmatic says it “is in full compliance with Department of Transportation Buy America requirements that ensure that transportation infrastructure projects are built with American-made products.”
